Short Inspiring Story of Honesty
A successful businessman was approaching retirement age and realised it was time to name a successor to take over the company. He opted to try something unusual instead of choosing one of his Directors or his children. He gathered all of his company's young executives in one room.
'It is time for me to step aside and choose the next CEO,' he said. ‘I've chosen to pick one of you.' The young executives were taken aback, but the boss persevered. ‘Today, I'm going to offer each of you a SEED – a very unique SEED.' I want you to plant the seed, water it, and return here in a year with what you've grown from the seed I've given you. The plants you bring will be judged, and the one I choose will be the future CEO.'
On that particular day, one individual named william was present, and he, like the rest, was given a seed. He returned home and told his wife the storey with glee. He put the seed after she assisted him in getting a pot, dirt, and compost. He would water it every day and check to see if it had grown. After about three weeks, several of the other CEOs started talking about their seeds and growing plants. William checked his seed several times, but nothing grew.
Three, four, and five weeks have passed, and nothing has changed.
Others were chattering about their plants by this point, but william didn't have one and felt like a failure. Six months had passed and there was still nothing in william's pot. He had no idea he had murdered his sperm. Everyone else's yard was full of trees and tall plants, but he had none. William, on the other hand, remained silent in front of his coworkers. He merely continued watering and feeding the soil because he was desperate for the seed to grow.
After a year, all of the company's young executives brought their plants before the CEO for inspection. William informed his wife that he would not accept an empty pot…
She did, however, request that he be truthful about what had occurred. William felt sick to his stomach, knowing it would be the most embarrassing moment of his life, but he knew his wife elizabeth was correct. He carried his empty pot inside the boardroom. William was astounded by the diversity of plants grown by the other CEOs when he arrived. They were stunning in all forms and sizes. When william threw his empty pot on the floor, several of his coworkers laughed, and a few felt sad for him!
When the CEO entered the room, he surveyed it and greeted his young executives.
William had only tried to hide in the back. 'My, what beautiful plants, trees, and flowers you've cultivated,' said the CEO. ‘One of you will be named the future CEO today!'
The CEO suddenly noticed william in the back of the room with his empty pot. He directed the Financial Director to bring him to the front of the line. William was frightened. He reasoned, 'The CEO knows I'm a failure!' Perhaps he will fire me!'
When william arrived at the front, the CEO inquired as to what had happened to his seed; william gave him the storey. Except for william, the CEO instructed everyone to take a seat. He looked at william and said to the young executives, 'Behold your next Chief Executive Officer!'
William is his name!' william couldn't believe his eyes. william couldn't even get his seed to sprout.
‘How could he possibly be the new CEO?' others stated
The CEO then stated, "One year ago today, I handed every person in this room a seed." I instructed you to take the seed, plant it, water it, and return it to me today. But I gave you all boiling seeds; they were all dead and couldn't grow.
Except for william, you've all brought me trees, plants, and flowers. When you discovered that the seed was not growing, you replaced it with another seed I gave you. Only william had the courage and honesty to bring me a pot with my seed in it. As a result, he will be the new Chief Executive Officer!'
Moral: Be Honest in all the situation. Its the best policy.!
